Delightful sewing make-do ca.1910.
Our ancestors were much thriftier than is the present custom. If something broke it was not automatically discarded - parts of the item were reused and readapted.
This needle and pin holder consists of a sweet faced German bisque glass eyed doll (marked 4473)which retains head, torso and arms but is missing its legs.
It is "dressed" in a 4 3/4" wide ribbon(7" long)on which is hand painted beautiful pansies and the words "There's a pin Sticking in the Baby". The holders inside are 3 pieces of fine flannel finished in a silk blanket stitch. Condition is excellent.
