Four charming Golliwog bandsmen advertise Robertson jams.
The trumpeter. saxophonist bass player and accordianist are all formed from plaster of paris. Two are marked ROBERTSON. I assume that they are post WWII. Condition is quite good - a minor chip on the base of the trumpeter. I assume these are of an earlier vintage because I have another Golliwog - a footballer - made of molded hard plastic-like material. The bandsmen all have stickers on the bottom which read "HAND PAINTED POTTERY".

A most colorful, oval"lunch box" style container by TINDECO - out of Baltimore, Md.-originally held candy. It is part of a series decorated with characters of the Peter Rabbit stories. This tin features the Fourth of July and is called PETER RABBIT ON PARADE.Peter Rabbit leads the parade dressed as Uncle Sam. This particular tin is hard to find in decent condition. The condition of this example is quite good and in determining the value the condition is of utmost importance. The lithography on the very rim of the cover shows the wear appropriate to the age - ca.1930. It is 4 1/2" long,3 1/2" deep (both measurements excluding the handle) and 2 3/8" tall lidded.

Woven twine and raffia on a wire armature and paint, are the materials used by the anonymous artist to create this black itinerant preacher,a bible under his arm, mounted on his horse. The bible's front page says, "HOLY BIBLE Contains 224 Pages of the New Testament Of Our Lord Jesus Christ", then a picture of a cross and a shepherd's crook and words under that "Printed in U.S.A." The Bible is 1 1/8" wide and 1 1/2" tall. Wonderful folk art figure. His saddle is a bit of old checkered cloth. Hard to date. I would guess ,most definitely, pre WWII,may be earlier. The condition is generally very good. The exception is the horse's ears. They have been repaired - one with glue ,the other with a pin -it is possible to improve upon the repairs,perhaps... The overall height of the preacher mounted on the horse is 12 1/4" and the overall width is about 9 1/2".

Really stunning lithography on this little tin bank. 3" high and roughly 4 1/2" wide oval shape. One side has a scene of children playing with toy soldiers. The other side shows children directing animals onto a Noah's ark they are launching in a pond. Their little dog seems to want to join in the fun. Lanterns hang from the branches above them. The colors are vibrant, the condition is excellent. The rim of the lid (this was most likely a candy tin which was used as a bank when the candy was gone)has the complete alphabet and the top of the lid teaches the importance of saving and also retains the coin slot. The bottom has its closure in place. There is no makers' or product mark. I suspect the tin is English, dating from the teens or the twenties. It is really lovely.

Krampus is supposedly a devil like figure, half man, half goat. He is one of the companions of Father Christmas in his travels - part of European lore. He carries bundles of sticks (used as switches) and usually a bag - in this case a staved basket - or chais (seen in the next Krampus I am listing. The mold is 5 5/8" tall . Made of tinned steel it does have a variety of markings: 16+2,10,11,WIEN (Vienna),...TEICH (cannot make out the first part might not be T but R, and therefore could be the last part of Ostreich-which is Austria.
