This figural barrel is a very nice Mauchline ware case sold by Ashworth's - it was for #40 six cord machine cotton. The decorative chromolithography is in very good condition - the band in the middle is marked "COPYRIGHT" and the inner label is intact. The bone circle surrounding the thread dispensing hole is fine. Dates to the third quarter of the 19th century.

A really lovely, thick celluloid glove darner/needle case. The larger end unscrews to reveal the needle compartment. The body is decorated with handpainted pink dogwood blossoms. About 4 3/8" long. Dates from the early 20th century and is in excellent condition.

Worn little straw filled velveteen puppy sits on a straw filled velveteen pincushion pillow. He looks worried - he was leaking a bit and was repaired with glue. Has sewn black thread nose and celluloid eyes. Bow around his neck is a replacement - the red one disintegrated (I tried to clean it up a bit).Pillow is 4" square. Puppy is 3 3/4" tall and about 3" front to back.Dates about the '30's.

A beautiful deep green is the color of the glass of this sock darner.It is free blown and has a snap pontil mark. It is about 5 1/2"long. The darner is in excellent condition . It shows use-appropriate scratches on the glass. I would date it about 1920's.

This cut steel chatelaine dates from the late 19th century. All parts are original, 3 matching chains, folding scissors, pin safe,thimble bucket and clip. The clip and other elements have interesting decorative designs.Clip and chains are 8" long and tools hang from them.A bit of wear on the clip and the velvet, generally very nice condition.

A 40" tape measure (cm on the other side) is within this delightful little celluloid basket of flowers.Maximum diameter is 1 1/2". Condition is very good. Ca.1930, made in Germany.

A leather and suede case, with a sterling closure, measuring 3 1/4" by 1 5/8" contains a set of 3 sterling silver bodkins in 3 sizes. The part that is particularly interesting is that they each have an ingenious little mechanism that holds the ribbon in place as it is threaded through the garment. They are patent dated "11-29-92". Condition is excellent.on the inside of the case is this additional marking "The Bramhall Novelty Co. Portland, Maine"

Hard to believe that commercial spools of thread were this elaborate in the 19th century. The spool is 1 3/8" tall and 1" in diameter. The ivory top has a beautifully detailed petal edging and retains its original label.The bottom is also made of ivory but plainer. The body is turned wood with a paper wrapper which says, "Taylor's Persian Thread.This Reel holds 200 Yards of No.12." Very good condition.

Probably the rarest of the punning tape measures, this sewer's delight is in the form of the Liberty Bell and says "The Bell That Got The Kaiser's Measure". You pull the clapper and there is the spring loaded tape. It works well, made of silver plated brass, it measures about 2" high.
