Charming early 20th century opera glasses really fool the eye till you take a closer look and see that you are looking at a milk glass
candy container with gilt detailing, tin screw caps on the lenses andgold lettering indicating they were souvenirs from a town in N.Y. I can't make out the name of the town. Quite nice condition - no chips. Actually may be a bit earlier than I approximated above.

This delightful Jacobs Christmas biscuit tin combines so may wonderful details. First it is a penny bank. then a fortune teller, the spinner works beautifully, then it has wonderful scenes of anthropomorphic bunnies at a Christmas ball. The lithography is gorgeous and the colors are bright. It is in lovely condition. It stands abut 7 3/4" to the top of the arch, the width 4 1/4" at the widest point and the depth 2 3/4" at the deepest point. We forgot to photograph one side panel which shows Mother Bunny adjusting her daughter's coat, with Poppa Bunny looking on, before she enters the coach which is to bring her to the ball. The whole thing is a whimsical delight. Sorry, the little key to the bottom of the bank is missing.

This piggy bank is a cream color with a sponged design of terracotta, blue and brown. While I have often heard this type of pottery bank ascribed to Roseville, I have also seen similar banks identified as made in Vienna. Both designations agree that it dates to the early 20th century. This size appears to be more unusual. 4 1/4" long by 3 3/4" tall. There is glaze wear on the ear tips (more on the right than the left), a little bit on the snout and some on the bottoms of the trotters. This piggy has a lovely winsome look.

Early 20th German (possibly Heyde) lead and tin figure standing on a sled leading a team of 4 huskies. The figure appears to be dressed as an Eskimo ca. early 1900's. A great piece for a winter scene or a Christmas layout. 5" at its longest and 2" at its tallest. The lead dog has a paint chip off the face(on the right side) ,the other dogs are excellent. The figure has a tiny paint chip on the face. The sled shows some paint wear.Despite these problems the figure presents very nicely.

Charming set of lithographed paper on wood spelling blocks. One side of these blocks shows A-Zs and the other side A-Zs with the corresponding words and pictures. The set is made in Germany around the turn of the century, most probably for the English market. Each block is 1 3/16" square, 3/8" thick, and in very nice condition. The entire original box measures 7 1/2" x 5". The label on the box is excellent, lid and bottom are fine, sides of the box are broken.

A most interesting combination of dominoes and story telling -ALL IN DUTCH! The title is SPROOKJES - DOMINO. The color lithography is lovely. Some of the stories included are, LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD, HANSEL & GRETEL,SNOW WHITE and the SEVEN DWARFS,and SLEEPING BEAUTY. The 28 cards completely fill the box, so I assume it is a complete game of double six.. The cards are in very good codition, the box is missing a piece of the edge on the short side of the box. The box is 5"x4".
By the illustration on the lid I would date it to the early 20th century.

In the early 20th century Raphael Tuck & Sons,Ltd. was the premier maker of beautifully chromolithographed paper toys in England. This embossed "rocker" is an example. Jolly Jack Tar is rowing the toys - a penny wooden doll, a Teddy bear, and two china head dolls. On the back is a poem entitled THE BONNIE BOATLOAD. The easel back has been reattached with archival tape. The color is glorious and there is no loss of details.
About 8 3/4" wide and 6 3/4" tall.

This delightful windup of a clown playing the violin was made by Schuco - an outstanding German toy company- in the early part of the twentieth century. He stands 4 1/2" high and has an excellent bowing technique. His clothes are in very good condition as is the tin and lithography . There is only a tiny bit of discoloration above his right eyebrow. His mechanism works very well. The key is the original one - marked "Schuco" ."Schuco Patent" and "Made in Germany" are impressed on the sides of his tin shoes.
