Charming early 20th century opera glasses really fool the eye till you take a closer look and see that you are looking at a milk glass
candy container with gilt detailing, tin screw caps on the lenses andgold lettering indicating they were souvenirs from a town in N.Y. I can't make out the name of the town. Quite nice condition - no chips. Actually may be a bit earlier than I approximated above.

Four charming Golliwog bandsmen advertise Robertson jams.
The trumpeter. saxophonist bass player and accordianist are all formed from plaster of paris. Two are marked ROBERTSON. I assume that they are post WWII. Condition is quite good - a minor chip on the base of the trumpeter. I assume these are of an earlier vintage because I have another Golliwog - a footballer - made ofmolded hard plastic-like material. The bandsmen all havestickers on the bottom which read "HAND PAINTED POTTERY".

Woven twine and raffia on a wire armature and paint, are the materials used by the anonymous artist to create this black itinerant preacher,a bible under his arm, mounted on his horse. The bible's front page says, "HOLY BIBLE Contains 224 Pages of the New Testament Of Our Lord Jesus Christ", then a picture of a cross and a shepherd's crook and words under that "Printed in U.S.A." The Bible is 1 1/8" wide and 1 1/2" tall. Wonderful folk art figure. His saddle is a bit of old checkered cloth. Hard to date. I would guess ,most definitely, pre WWII,may be earlier. The condition is generally very good. The exception is the horse's ears. They have been repaired - one with glue ,the other with a pin -it is possible to improve upon the repairs,perhaps... The overall height of the preacher mounted on the horse is 12 1/4" and the overall width is about 9 1/2".

This lovely little shellwork dresser with tilting mirror is 6 1/8" at its tallest point and 4 7/8" at the widest. While it shows appropriate wear on the Dresden trim, it is in very nice condition. The original Dresden paper has outlines of the drawers and panels. It is a charming little sewing box/pincusion, but it could work as a piece of furniture in the seaside cottage Victorian dollhouse. It appears to have all its original shellwork.

Really stunning lithography on this little tin bank. 3" high and roughly 4 1/2" wide oval shape. One side has a scene of children playing with toy soldiers. The other side shows children directing animals onto a Noah's ark they are launching in a pond. Their little dog seems to want to join in the fun. Lanterns hang from the branches above them. The colors are vibrant, the condition is excellent. The rim of the lid (this was most likely a candy tin which was used as a bank when the candy was gone)has the complete alphabet and the top of the lid teaches the importance of saving and also retains the coin slot. The bottom has its closure in place. There is no makers' or product mark. I suspect the tin is English, dating from the teens or the twenties. It is really lovely.

Smallest doll- SOLD
Group of 3 Mammy Dolls - $115.00
|
These 3 little dolls form an interesting collection. While they all depict Mammies, these small rag dolls - often called "pocket dolls" (they all are without much in the way of torsos and have no legs) are quite different. The one with the blue and white dress is a nut head with painted features holding a celluloid baby, arms are paper wrapped wire. The one wearing a red and white gingham dress has a cloth head with embroidered features and fabric wrapped wire arms. She is holding a baby made of cloth and lace. The third one has a head made of a black rubber baby bottle nipple, painted eyes and the arms are twigs. This one has a bit of a problem, as the right side of the black rubber has started to crumble under the dress - not visible. They probably are all pre WWII.
They are 4 1/4" to 5 1/2" tall. An interesting group. Except for the problem described on the third doll, they are all in very good shape.

Lorenzy-Palanca was a company that was located in Marseilles,France and sold perfumes at the turn of the century and went bankrupt in 1930. The Peugeot 201 van was produced from 1929 to 1937. This then dates this charming promotional tin car to about 1930. While it has been described by some as a candy container-the top of the van lifts, it could also have held a perfume bottle - the ultimate packaging! The condition of the lithography and the tin is beautiful. It is 6 1/4" long and 3" high.
