| This mid 19th century Mauchline ware box was probably issued during the short time there was a Napoleon III 1852-1870. It advertises Ashworth's Machine Cotton. The advertising on the inside of the lid is in perfect condition. There are 6 spool holders and a thimble holder in the case. The 6 ivory grommets on the outside of the box are intact. The 2 scenes lithographed on the sides are St. Clements Bay, Jersey and St. Mary's Church, Dover Castle. The lid has an oval cartouche containing a bust of Napoleon III and is so identified . There is a little bit of crackling and wear on the glazing over the portrait, but none disturb the image. Diameter and height are roughly 4"x2". | ||||||
