Stanley and Livingstone on Mauchline ware sewing box.
A wonderful Clark's advertising thread box( with the advertising paper intact in the lid) about 4" x 2 1/4" x 1 1/2", holds 6 spools of thread. On the cover in a pair of oval cartouche are portraits of Dr. Livingstone and Henry M. Stanley. On the front bottom part of the box it says "Made of wood grown near Abbotsford". A perfect 19th century souvenir. For those who may not remember the day: Stanley, while exploring in Africa, found Dr. Livingstone, a missionary who had been thought to be lost, and was famously supposed to have said, "Dr. Livingstone, I presume".
